Home Euthanasia
Your pet has given you their lifetime of love and joy. Let us help you make their final moments as peaceful as possible in the comfort of your own home.
When I perform a home euthanasia, I always come in first to meet you and your pet, do a brief assessment, and go over their history. I will go over the process with you in detail at this time so you know what to expect.
For dogs, I give a total of 3 injections: Sedation, Anesthesia, then the final drug. The first 2 injections are given in a back leg with a tiny, insulin sized, needle. I do not attempt to place an IV catheter until your pet is under anesthesia and feeling no pain or stress. While most pets don’t react to the initial injection, a big plate of their favorite treats, if they’re still eating, definitely helps to distract them. I give the anesthetic injection when they are either very sedated or already asleep. Once your pet is sound asleep, if you would like one, I will make a complimentary Pawpals paw-print for you to keep. The final injection is given IV with a small butterfly catheter.
For cats, the process is similar, except I combine the sedation and anesthesia into one injection. I only have to inject a small amount of medicine, and I’ve found that it works quicker and more efficiently in cats than when I split the sedation and anesthesia.
For very fearful or hard to handle pets, oral sedation upon my arrival is available at an additional charge. However, these drugs can cause a lot of drooling or even vomiting, so most people choose to just go with the injectables. Please inform me ahead of time if you are interested in oral sedation so that I can allow extra time for our appointment.

Palliative Care and Hospice
At home management of chronic illnesses and pain.
We will begin with a Quality of Life Consultation. These consultations typically run about 2 hours, as we go over history and current conditions in detail, perform a thorough physical exam, discuss what to look for as his/her condition progresses, and come up with a comfort care plan.
